What is the process to water damage?

Flooding in a home is not always the result of weather. Flooding and water damage can occur from multiple things. Emergencies that cause water damage may be a sewer backup, pipe burst, home appliances leaking, a hot water tank leaking and sump pump failure. The results of these are the beginning stages of water damage. Water in your home can ruin whatever is in its path such as furniture, flooring, drywall, and more. It doesn’t take long for standing water to cause issues. Water restoration is more than soaking up the water with towels and setting up a few fans for drying and is much more to it then what the eye can see.
Now you may be thinking, what if. What if my toilet started over flowing and flooded my bathroom? What is my dishwasher started leaking and ruined my hardwood floors in my kitchen? What my washing machine flooded my laundry room and water went into my finished basement affecting drywall on the ceiling? No one wants water damage to their home, business or property. Knowing the process that can get your home back to its original state can put a person’s mind at ease and SERVPRO of Manchester can and will do just that.

INITIAL CALL
When you call, we will ask several questions regarding your water damage emergency like your name and contact information, address, when and what caused the water damage and insurance information. These questions will help us determine what equipment and resources to bring, including how many trained SERVPRO Professionals may be needed.
INSPECTION
This process begins with a walk through of the property and water damage. This inspection allows us to determine the amount of damage there is and what it will take to bring the affected area back to its original state. We will take note on what is affected whether such as drywall, wood floors, carpet or concrete and then determine the amount of moisture in the affected material. We will also determine the water category. Was it clean water? This may include water from a supply line for a toilet or sink. Was it grey water, this type of water usually comes from a toilet overflow or a drain pipe backup.
DRYING PROCESS
The drying process is important and starting this process as soon as possible is imperative. Once we remove all standing water the drying process begins. Most material we can dry out with our commercial grade fans and dehumidifiers but there is also some instances where we will need to perform demo and remove drywall to expose and remove any possible insulation, remove flooring that act like vapor barriers that prohibit a subfloor from drying. Once the appropriate demo has been completed we let the equipment do the work. Our fans and dehumidifiers usually can dry out a structure in 2 – 3 days.
REBUILD
The rebuild process consists of replacing any and all material that was affected by the water damage. It can be as simple as replacing some trim or drywall and repainting the walls to all knew flooring and kitchen cabinets. SERVPRO of Manchester can help you from start to finish.
