Flooded Basement

Swimming pools are great and all but not in your basement. Here at SERVPRO of Manchester-East we want to help you prevent this from happening.
So, here are a few tips on how to avoid a flooded basement and a big headache:
Check your water heater:
A water heater malfunction is one of the most common causes of a flooded basement. There's water everywhere, furniture is damaged, whatever personal belongings are down there are more than likely ruined and the list goes on.
Check your home's foundation for cracks:
If you find smaller cracks you can typically use calking to fix them, however, for any larger more extensive cracks you may want to enlist a professional to repair the damage.
Check your gutters:
Make sure your gutters are free of any debris. This is another common issue for water finding it's way into a basement. Clogged gutters cause water to overflow and not make it to the downspout which is what would carry the water away from your home. Instead the water starts to pool around your home and potentially finding its way into your basement.
Install a sump pump:
It’s a good idea to have a sump pump installed just in case. Be sure to keep it cleaned and maintained so that it continues to function properly.
